What Preserve appearance keeps
The default mode keeps page size and orientation and attempts to preserve images, colors, lines, and the visual layout of tables. Compatible native text becomes editable positioned blocks. This helps with small changes, such as replacing a word or adjusting a value.
Does a table become an editable Word table?
Not necessarily. In this mode, table lines, backgrounds, and layout form the visual background, with compatible text on top. These are not native Word cells. To work with data rows and columns, consider PDF to Excel and review the extraction.
When to choose Flowing text
Choose Flowing text to reorganize paragraphs, adapt a long text, or create a new document from the content. This option prioritizes continuous editing and may lose the original arrangement of columns, images, and tables.
What happens to a scanned PDF?
A scanned document may contain no native text. Preserve appearance may keep the page as an image, with a notice that it did not become editable text. To extract text, use Flowing text with available OCR or the text recognition tool.
Will it always look identical?
There is no universal guarantee. Missing fonts on your computer, special layers, and incompatible features may change the result. Pages that cannot be safely reconstructed are kept as images and listed in a notice. Keep the original PDF and check the file in the editor you plan to use.
