How to check whether compression helped
Compare the original size with the result and examine the same page in both files. Check accents, small numbers, charts, and visible signatures. A smaller file is not useful if important information becomes unreadable.
Why do some PDFs barely get smaller?
Files with vector text and already compressed images may show little improvement. This does not mean processing failed. No reduction percentage is guaranteed for every document.
Can I reach exactly 1 MB?
An exact final size cannot be guaranteed. If the destination form has a size limit, compare your result with that limit. When allowed, removing unnecessary pages or splitting attachments may work better than using stronger compression.
Care with scanned documents
In scanned documents, text is part of the image and may lose sharpness when the image is reduced. Check stamps and small text especially. OCR is a separate operation: recognizing text does not guarantee a smaller or sharper image.
